How HOCl is being used for Pets
Itch and Inflammation Pruritus (chronic itching)
Chronic itching is the most common dermatologic problem in both small and large
animals, and can cause red, inflamed areas of skin, which may lead to bacterial
infections.
Pruritus is a clinical sign and not a diagnosis or specific disease. In general,
the most common causes of pruritus are parasites, infections, allergic skin
diseases, and miscellaneous causes (e.g, cutaneous neoplasia).
HOCl soothes skin irritations and helps to reduce pain and itch. HOCl is also especially
effective in degrading biofilm and neutralizing inflammatory mediators in the body to reduce
bacterial growth on the skin.

HOCl used in prevention of infection in rats
Hypochlorous acid solution, a weak acid, provided as drinking water to rats, was evaluated
for its ability to eradicate and prevent Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection, while monitoring
its simultaneous effect on serum biochemical variables and microbiota in the rat cecum
P. aeruginosa causes an opportunistic infection and the organism needs to be controlled,
especially in facilities with immunocompromised animals.
Environmental cleanup in such facilities is carried out using a chlorhexidine or phenolic
disinfectant, and/or by supplying antibiotics, or tap water acidified with hydrochloric acid
at pH 2.5 to 3.0.
